Melksham Walking Football team receives Winner’s Trophy in Almelo, Holland.
A massive congratulations to Andrew Butcher and the Melksham Walking Football team who recently picked up the Winner’s Trophy at the European Walking Football Cup in Almelo, Holland.
The Almelo City Cup is in its 7th Year now and is extremely well organised, friendly, tournament in which the whole town embraces the visiting teams. Its one big party, whilst playing football and making new friends.
Andrew Butcher holds the trophy
Andrew states:
“Myself and the team would personally like to thank Darren & Kevin at Melville and Burbage for their kind sponsorship of the kit for the team.
On a personal note I would also like to thank Melville Burbage Insurance who kindly purchased my business Melksham Insurance couple of years ago following my retirement due to health issues.
All the team in Melksham continue to work in the office which is great and the business continues to grow and provide insurance services to the local community.
Whilst I was working we always had close links with the local sports teams, football, Rugby etc and Kevin and Darren have continued this going forward, even now for us old Walking Footballers, mens and ladies teams.
The health and mental well being for us old folk still playing sport at our age is massive and better than any medication ! It needs support from local businesses to continue to grow and move forward.“
This was the first year that Melksham Walking Football team had entered the competition, so it was an incredible achievement on the part of all players to lift the trophy and, as you can imagine, there were some great celebrations following the result.
The Melksham Men over 50s Yellow team currently plays in the Wiltshire Walking Football League, playing all their games at the FA HQ, located at Greenlane playing fields, Devizes.
